The Villa That Started Us On Our Menorcan Adventure
Villa Mariposa Es Grau
We had been invited to stay with friends at this villa in the beautiful national nature park at Shangri La S'Albufera, close to Es Grau. Our friend had owned the villa from new and had suffered many trials and tribulations over it, not least of which was the developer being discredited and the whole development put into jeopardy.
To cut a long story short, the development became a nature reserve for birds, centred around the lake within the park and many of the properties were knocked down or never even built. The upshot is there are around 35 villas in an area intended to support well over 100. Our friends were having another villa built to their own specifications in Cala Llonga, closer to Mahon and were thinking of selling.
We were immediately interested - it is truly a beautiful location and a beautiful villa. As things turned out, the build of their new villa took longer than expected and along the way, they decided not to sell. By this time we were hooked on the idea and had fallen in love with Menorca - so we went ahead and found our own little piece of heaven.
And that's how we came to buy our villa. Meanwhile our friends still let out Villa Mariposa to friends and some paying guests and we included some pictures here to show you why we fell in love with the place!
